Cima Rosetta is easily accessible in summer and is not only suitable for trekkers, but also for children of all ages and families. The path to the summit is challenging, rocky and steep, but it is possible to take a cable car and gondola up to 2700 m. The summit itself is 2743 m high. The summit itself is 2743 m high, the ascent to it is not long and it has a very rewarding view!
The "Laghi di Colbricon" are located in the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park. You have to walk about half an hour to reach the lakes and the best starting point is Malga Rolle, just outside Passo Rolle. There is a large free car park and in front of it a path with simple signs. The path is gently sloping through the woods. You can't swim in the small lakes, but the views are unmissable. With reflections of mountains and forests, the Laghetti Di Colbricon are truly a dream for photographers and nature lovers!
Not the largest, but certainly one of the most beautiful lakes in Trentino.
Lake Welsperg, surrounded by fairytale scenery, located in Val Canali just outside San Martino Di Castrozza, lets the south side of the Pale di San Martino Mountains reflect in it.
It is really relaxing to take a walk around the perimeter of the lake, in the garden of Villa Welsperg or along the many paths in the park.
A"malga" is a small structure that was and still is used as a shelter for shepherds during the summer grazing periods in the high pastures. It is therefore a place of production of milk, yoghurt, ricotta cheese, typical cheeses and other dairy products. Most of the malghe you will find in Trentino are very attached to their traditions and will serve fresh cheese, polenta, mushrooms, strudel with cream and berries as well as locally made bread. Our favourite malga in the San Martino area was the Malga Venegia, which is located in the valley of the same name, surrounded by woods. Not only does it offer beautiful mountain views, but Malga Venegia serves some of the most delicious homemade Trentino food!
Mezzano is a small town located about 25 minutes by car from San Martino Di Castrozza. With only about 1700 inhabitants, it is characterised by its rural past. Although as a tourist destination it is not as well known as the neighbouring towns, Mezzano is one of the prettiest places we visited during our trip: it is known for its wooden stacks elaborated in a really artistic and singular way that characterize in a spectacular way buildings and houses telling each one a different story.
The walk in Val Venegia is one of the activities you absolutely cannot give up. The view of the Pale mountains on the north-west face is truly epic, the path is flat, suitable for everyone and the Venegia and Venegiota malghe are worth visiting for their history, but above all for their typical and delicious dishes. With the sound of the stream running parallel to the path, the cowbells of the cows grazing freely, the eyes immersed in the green of the fir trees and the pure air of clear skies, Val Venegia is definitely one of the recommended destinations in the Paneveggio Park.
One of the best experiences to have in San Martino Di Castrozza! We spent an afternoon in the kitchen of the Chalet Pra' delle Nasse, with a real Italian chef, learning how to cook homemade pasta and various local Trentino desserts such as strudel or sacher: fun that left our palates really satisfied too!
